In addition to the grade awards, there were a number of Club awards.
Tony Gordge Memorial Trophy
The award for the season's Most Outstanding Junior is named after Tony ‘Tubby’ Gordge, a Life Member and stalwart of this Club, whose efforts ensured that our Club could be a home for junior players more extensively. What started as a MILO Cricket centre in the early 2000’s became an Under 12’s team in the seasons after, and is now two Under 12, two Junior Colts and a Senior Colts team. Tony left us in 2015 with the award honoured for the first time after the 2015/16 season.
This season's winner was Levi Stringer. Already claiming Batting, Bowling and Fielding trophies, Levi was recognised also for his leadership of one of the Junior Colts teams and for an overall season of more than 500 runs and 20-plus wickets representing Port Elliot, Great Southern Cricket Association and the Fleurieu & Districts Zone.
Gavin Carnegie-Smith Medal
The Carnegie-Smith Medal recognises the A Grade Cricketer of the Year, on a voted awards system involving a selected number of players. They are therefore recognising one of their own in the process. Gavin himself played over 500 matches for the Club, is a Life Member and held Committee roles for the best part of 30 years at Club and Association level as well as for our Oval Management Committee, and whose family links back to the donation of the greenspace we now call Port Elliot Oval.
This year's winner was Simon Donaldson, his fifth 'Cricketer of the Year' award overall and second since it became this medal in 2016/17. Simon provided his best return in a single season of 34 wickets, with his best return of 6/46 coming in an outright win over Mount Compass, where he claimed overall match figures of 9/53. He is now just six wickets behind Doug French, who with 264 wickets is the leading A Grade wicket-taker.
Club Person Of The Year
The Club Person of The Year recognises considerable help by an individual during the most recent season. Often this has been an 'off the field' award.
This season, it was awarded to Simon and Ali Donaldson. Simon's playing feats this season have already been described, but he also coached his daughter Kirra's Junior Colts team for a second straight season as well as an eighth season in the role of Treasurer.
Ali has provided great support to both the teams her family are involved with, but in particular her coordinating of afternoon tea for the A Grade matches at home along with assistance at club functions did not go un-noticed either.
As a Club we are grateful for having people of this calibre in our ranks.
Life Membership Awarded
Life Membership recognises outstanding service to the Club over a prolonged period.
Neville Wenham was inducted as Life Member, the eleventh of this Club. Neville first played for the Club in 1984/85, and returned in 2005/06 and has played almost continuously since. In that time, to date, he has played 242 matches, scoring 6713 runs, including 4 centuries (HS 107), and 41 half-centuries. His 6713 runs are the second-most of all time for the Club, along with the second-most number of half-centuries. He has scored more than 500 runs in a season three times, including 625 runs in 2019/20 and 504 in 2017/18, which were both premiership seasons for the One Day Competition team. He was also a premiership player in the 2013/14 B Grade and 2015/16 C Grade.
With the ball, he's claimed 63 wickets with a best bowling of 5/26, along with 121 catches. With this record, he is 7th on the list of most Matches Played, and is only one of 9 to play more than 200 matches and score 2000-plus runs.
He lead the Club in 59 matches as Captain (2006/07, 2009/10, 2016/17, 2018/19, 2021/22), as well as coaching the Under 14 team to back-to-back premierships in the 2014/2015 and 2015/2016 seasons.
Darryl Mason (Awarded Life Membership in 2016) was on hand to speak of Neville's achievements and present the Life Membership.
On a lighter note, the 'Duck Cup' for the most 'ducks' was awarded to Finn Hayden, and the 'Wally Wha' trophy to David Ling, for his somewhat 'flooded' reaction to his own dismissal at Old Noarlunga.
Earlier in the season, the Under 12's held their presentations after their final match. We once again had two teams, which means we’ve had multiple teams if not three, for nine straight seasons. We had two first-time coaches in Ben Williams, an ex-player who returned back to the Club with his son Harper, and Stuart Lakin-Hall, whose sons Owen and Tristan were fresh to the Club this season. It was another successful season and thank you to everyone who supported Ben and Stuart. Award winners are as follows:
Most Improved - Harper Williams (Black), Hugh McIntosh (Red)
Spirit of Cricket - William Hambour (Black), Sam Dowling (Red)
